TIM’S EULOGY FOR THE CLASS
Let us take a moment to remember our departed classmates who are still here with us in spirit:
Phyllis Anninos
Kurt Davis
Jeff Faber
Bill Hailstones
Jon Harris
Mike Jones
Mike Kahn
George Nutter
Scott Stegeman
Martin Veveris
Holly Whaling-Craft
Carl Welkom
Regrettably, this list grows with the passing of each year. It may not seem like a long list, but one must remember we were a small class, especially when you consider the size of the high schools today.
For most of us here, we will probably not remember our classmates for how they looked before their passing, but how they were in High School.
We’ll remember their faces, their foibles, their nuances which made them who they were are…Who we all are. We won’t remember their weaknesses or frailties, but rather we’ll remember some obscure amusing anecdotes about them.
We’ll think back with fondness.
I don’t like to think that they have disappeared completely, as much as they have simply gone before us, perhaps too early, and some day we will hopefully meet again for another reunion.
I would like to read a short poem which I normally use for eulogies:
CROSSING THE BAR – Alfred L. Tennyson
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea.
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
To full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep,
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be not sadness or farewell,
When I embark.
For though from out our bourne of time and place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face,
When I have crossed the bar.
Please rise.
I hereby propose a toast to our dearly departed classmates who are still amongst us today in our thoughts and prayers. To the Class of 1972.
Thank you.
